Welcome to Prague - it is the most fortunate of all European cities; fortunate because its skyline was never touched by the
ravages of war and because its essential appearance was never scarred by the addition of modern eyesores. Viewed from the Castle Hill
the historical centre, whose hundred of rooftops reflect the golden patina of the midday sun, clings to the gently curving bend in River
Vltava (also called the Moldau). Its banks seem to be only just held together by the filigreed constructions of its bridges: on the one-side lies the Lesser Quarter and on the other the Old Town. Romantic, elegant and central to many of the most important periods in European history. Prague has developed rapidly as a tourist destination since the demise of Eastern Block, while managing to retain its unique charms.
Prague’s picturesque Old Town Square is the natural mid point of the old town and the heart of Prague in the centre of the square stands the Jan Hus Monument while to the north is the ornate façade of St. Nicholas’ Church. The Old Town Square also contains the Tyn Church, the astronomical clock and some of the cities more expensive but not necessarily better restaurants and bars. |
