Travellers to Poland will delight in the heroic past, urban vitality and natural beauty. The enduring character of Poland's
cities is displayed in the old-world splendour of regal Kraków and the modern clamour of ambitious Warsaw.
The cities are as dynamic and cosmopolitan as those found in Western Europe. Over the past decade, Poland has developed into a
vibrant and progressive nation, yet it has maintained it's traditional culture. The country is finally reasserting itself after
centuries of occupation and subversion, and it's a great time to visit.
Poland's rich history is recounted by it's imposing medieval castles and charming old town squares. Many of them are lovingly
rebuilt after the Second World War. The royal grandeur is best preserved in Kraków's Old Town.
Some of the largest cities have opera houses, the one in Warsaw offers the best productions. For classical music, the
Filharmonia Narodowa (National Philharmonic) usually holds concerts Friday and Saturday night in most major cities. Warsaw and
Kraków have lively jazz scenes. Clubs are popular and usually open from 9pm to late on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Poland has a moderate continental climate. Summer is usually warm and sunny, with July the hottest month, but it's also the season
with the highest rainfall. Spring and autumn are pleasantly warm, but can also be rainy. You can expect snow anywhere in Poland
between December and March lingering until April or even May in the mountains.
